In Northern Cyprus, fines for traffic violations have increased
With the increase in the minimum wage in the TRNC, fines for traffic violations have been updated. They are based on the minimum wage before tax deductions, which now amounts to 27,587 Turkish liras.
Along with the increase in the minimum wage, not only have fines for traffic violations increased, but also the penalty points imposed on drivers.
In particular, the fine for driving with a blood alcohol level exceeding 100 milligrams has increased to 27,587 TL. Fines for driving without a driver's license, with rights of another category, or without the owner's permission, and for refusing to undergo a medical examination, have also increased to 27,587 TL.
The list of some updated traffic fines looks like this:
- Speeding up to 20 kilometers - 10% of the minimum wage (2,758 lira 70 kurus) and 5 penalty points;
- Driving an unregistered car - 10% of the minimum wage (2,758 lira 70 kurus);
- Driving a car without a driver's license - a fine equal to the full minimum wage - 27,587 lira, 100 points;
- Exceeding the speed limit by up to 20 kilometers where a stationary speed camera is installed - 10% of the minimum wage (2,758 lira 70 kurus), 5 points;
- Exceeding the speed by 20 to 40 kilometers where there is a stationary system of speed cameras - 15% of the minimum wage (4,138 lira 5 kurus), 10 points;
- Exceeding the speed by more than 40 kilometers where a stationary speed camera is installed - 25% of the minimum wage (6,896 lira 75 kurus), 50 points;
- Ignoring traffic signals - a fine equal to 20% of the minimum wage (5,517 lira 40 kurus), 30 points;
- Disobeying road signs and indicators - 10% of the minimum wage (2,758 lira 70 kurus), 15 points.
