75 traffic accidents in Northern Cyprus in a week: 1 dead, 24 injured
According to the TRNC Police General Directorate, from 29 September to 5 October, 75 traffic accidents were recorded in Northern Cyprus. One person died in an accident, 18 accidents involved injuries, with a total of 24 people injured, and 56 incidents resulted only in property damage.
The causes of the accidents were distributed as follows: 25 cases due to speeding, 11 due to careless driving, 21 due to failure to stop at intersections, 10 due to not keeping a safe distance, and 8 for other reasons.
The total reported property damage amounted to 3,579,700 Turkish lira. By district: 24 accidents in Nicosia, 19 in Famagusta, 18 in Kyrenia, 10 in Güzelyurt, and 4 in İskele.
During police checks, 17,491 drivers were inspected. As a result, 2,571 road users were held administratively responsible. 233 vehicles were removed from operation, and 14 drivers were detained.
The report also provides a breakdown of recorded violations: 725 for speeding (including 123 detected by mobile devices), 84 for driving under the influence, 46 for using a mobile phone while driving, 28 for not wearing seat belts, and a number of other violations, totaling 941 other violations.
