Foundations for the Supreme Court and National Library Laid in Northern Cyprus

A ceremonial groundbreaking event took place in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), marking the start of construction for the Supreme Court and National Library buildings. These structures will be located within the future Presidential campus area, with the completion of the project expected in 2026.

The ceremony was attended by senior officials from both the TRNC and Turkey, including Cevdet Yılmaz, Vice President of Turkey, Ersin Tatar, President of the TRNC, Ziya Öztürkler, Speaker of the Parliament, Ünal Üstel, Prime Minister, Bertan Özerdağ, Chairman of the Supreme Court, and Murat Kurum, Minister of Environment and Urbanization of Turkey.

The event took place in the new conference hall of the Republic Assembly campus. During the ceremony, a video presentation was showcased, providing a glimpse of the future Presidential campus, including the architectural design of the Supreme Court building.

The building will span approximately 7,000 square meters and will feature:

  • A 300-seat conference hall
  • Five meeting rooms
  • Offices for prosecutors and lawyers
  • A large library

This will be the first building in the history of the TRNC specifically designed and built to meet the needs of the Supreme Court.

In his address, President Ersin Tatar expressed his gratitude to the Turkish leadership and underscored the symbolic importance of the project:

"A monumental complex is being built that will serve as a symbol of the sovereignty and independence of the TRNC," he declared. "This will be the heart of the republic, and it will continue to grow stronger as it progresses."

Vice President Cevdet Yılmaz from Turkey emphasized that Ankara remains committed to supporting the development of Northern Cyprus:

"Turkey will continue to mobilize all resources for the sustainable development of the TRNC, raising the standard of living and confidently paving the way for the future," he stated.

The ceremony concluded with a prayer and the symbolic laying of the foundation stone.
