In Northern Cyprus, the import of a number of construction materials is prohibited without the approval of the Chamber of Civil Engineers
The Chamber of Civil Engineers of the Union of Chambers of Cyprus Turkish Engineers and Architects (KTMMOB) announced the entry into force of new regulations. As of October 30, 2025, the import of certain load-bearing construction materials to Northern Cyprus is prohibited without a compliance certificate issued by the Chamber.
The list of controlled materials includes reinforcement steel, structural steel, brick, autoclaved aerated concrete, concrete blocks, structural wood materials, and light steel structural elements. These materials will undergo sampling and laboratory testing in a newly established laboratory at the Famagusta port.
Until a positive laboratory conclusion and a certificate of conformity are obtained, the products will not be allowed to enter the market. Authorized technical staff of the Chamber of Civil Engineers will be responsible for sampling, testing, and issuing the documents.
The Chamber noted that the preparation and amendments to the regulatory framework were carried out with the support of the Ministry of Economy and Energy, as well as the government leadership and members of the Council of Ministers. The statement emphasizes that the measure aims to strengthen construction control and improve safety in the face of seismic risks in Northern Cyprus.
