Bus Fire with Students on the Kyrenia–Nicosia Highway
A bus carrying students caught fire on Northern Cyprus’ Kyrenia–Nicosia highway. Thankfully, no one was injured in the incident.
According to the police press office, the fire started around 11:00 AM on the main Kyrenia–Nicosia road, at the Boğazköy intersection. At the time of the fire, a group of students from Kyrenia's Vocational Tourism School was aboard the bus.
Firefighters arrived promptly and quickly extinguished the flames. The fire completely destroyed the bus’s three-meter roof and 25 seats. Another 22 seats were partially damaged. The intense heat also caused the rear and three side windows of the bus to shatter, and the interior was left in ruins.
Preliminary reports suggest the fire was caused by a short circuit, which ignited the electrical system on the left side of the bus. An investigation is ongoing.
