10 Days Granted for Objections to New Minimum Wage in TRNC
A period for objections regarding the new minimum wage has officially begun in Northern Cyprus. Ten days have been allocated for discussions and appeals.
The TRNC Council of Ministers published a recommendation on the minimum wage in the "Official Gazette," which was approved during the Minimum Wage Determination Commission's meeting and will take effect on September 1, 2024. They have decided to allow a 10-day period for parties to submit their objections.
Earlier this week, the Minimum Wage Determination Commission announced that the new minimum wage in Northern Cyprus will be set at 35,180 Turkish Liras "net" in hand and 40,436 Turkish Liras before tax deductions, reflecting an increase of approximately 19%.
If no objections are raised, the new minimum wage will be established at 233.28 TL per hour, 1,866.27 TL per day, and 9,331.38 TL per week, effective September 1.
It's important to note that the last change to the minimum wage occurred at the end of May, when it was increased by 23.5% to 29,640 Turkish Liras. This decision was reached through a consensus between government representatives and labor unions, although the employers' side voted against the increase.
Previously, a 10-day period for objections was also provided. After reviewing those objections, the minimum wage was reduced by 120 Liras. Before the last increase, the minimum wage in the TRNC stood at 29,520 Turkish Liras.
