Goods Imported from TRNC to Turkey to Be Taxed at "EU Rates"
A new customs tax regulation has come into effect for goods brought into Turkey from the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) by passengers, mail, or cargo.
According to a decision by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan, published in the Official Gazette, products imported from the TRNC will now be subject to the same tax rates as goods arriving directly from European Union (EU) countries.
This regulation introduces a fixed customs duty for goods brought in under the specified categories.
The rule applies to:
- Goods carried by passengers,
- Goods sent via mail, and
- Goods transported by cargo services.
Customs duties will be calculated based on the rates applied to goods imported directly from the EU.
With this change, goods brought into Turkey from the TRNC will be treated at customs in the same manner as those arriving from EU member states. Passengers and individuals sending goods are required to comply with this new tax regulation.
The decision came into effect immediately upon publication.
