83,000 Turkish Cypriots registered in the electoral rolls in the Republic of Cyprus will be able to vote for two seats in the European Parliament elections. The voting is scheduled for June 9th.

According to the newspaper Politis, for the first time in Cyprus' political history, three Greek Cypriot parties have included Turkish Cypriot candidates in their electoral lists for the European Parliament elections.

The Turkish Cypriot candidates are Niyazi Kızılyürek from the AKEL party, Hulusi Kilim from the "Volt" party, and Oz Karahan from the Movement for Environmental Cooperation with Citizens.

According to the publication, the candidates from the Turkish Cypriots aim to secure votes not only from approximately 570,000 Greek Cypriots and 11,000 EU citizens registered in the electoral lists but also from more than 83,000 Turkish Cypriots.

It is noted that out of the 80,682 Turkish Cypriots registered in the electoral rolls for the European Parliament elections in 2019, only 5,804 people voted. However, expectations regarding the participation of Turkish Cypriots in the elections are significantly higher this time.
