Construction has begun on a linear park along the Kanlıdere in Lefkoşa

Lefkoşa is launching the first phase of works to create a new linear park along the Kanlıdere riverbed — a project intended to connect the north and south of the city into a single pedestrian zone. The works will start on November 26 and are being carried out with the support of the EU and UNDP.
In the first stage, the section from the Ledra Palace crossing to the intersection of Mehmet Akif and Osman Paşa streets will be improved: pavements will be upgraded, the rainwater drainage system will be improved, a bicycle lane will be created, greenery will be added and a modern urban landscape will be formed. The total budget of the project is €4.4 million. A separate tender for works directly on the riverbed is planned to be announced in January.
Lefkoşa Mayor Mehmet Harmancı stated that Kanlıdere is a long-awaited project the city has been working on for many years. “We are opening a new page for the capital. This corridor will become an important green space and will serve people, the environment, and urban life,” he noted.
The works will be divided into several stages in order to minimize disruption to traffic. The municipality promises to regularly inform residents about the progress of the project.
