Welder Arrested After Sparks Cause Fire in Central Kyrenia
A fire that broke out yesterday afternoon in central Kyrenia was caused by negligence. The police have already detained a suspect in connection with the incident.
According to emergency services, the fire began around 2:30 PM at an old building of the Zues Hotel on Iskenderun Street. Sparks from a welding machine ignited dry grass in the surrounding area, leading to the blaze.
Responders, including police officers, firefighters, civil defense teams, the forestry department, and municipal crews, quickly arrived at the scene and managed to bring the fire under control.
The fire resulted in the destruction of household appliances, furniture, aluminum and wooden parts, and eight palm trees. During the investigation, police arrested a 37-year-old man who had been using the welding machine and allowed sparks to ignite the dry grass.
