The leaders of the Turkish Cypriot and Greek Cypriot communities have officially announced the members of the new Bicommunal Youth Technical Committee in Cyprus. A total of 32 people — 16 from each community — have been appointed and their names submitted to the United Nations.

This follows an agreement reached during an informal meeting in Geneva in March 2025. Greek Cypriot leader Nikos Christodoulides and Turkish Cypriot leader Ersin Tatar both shared the list of committee members with each other and with the UN, according to a statement from the UN Good Offices Mission in Cyprus.

Each side appointed 16 members, including a co-chair to jointly lead the committee.

Representing the Turkish Cypriot side as co-chair is Vehbi Zeki Serter, the grandson of a prominent politician who served twice as Speaker of the TRNC Parliament in the 1990s and 2000s. Serter holds a master’s degree in International Relations from Boğaziçi University in Istanbul.

The Greek Cypriot co-chair is Amalia Avraam, president of the NGO Cyprus Youth Diplomacy. She holds a Master of Laws (LL.M.) degree from St. George’s, University of London.
