December “Hunger Line” Announced in Northern Cyprus
The Cyprus Turkish Civil Servants' Union (KTAMS) has announced that the "hunger line" for a family of four, as of December 31, 2024, is set at 27,567 TL.
According to research conducted by the union, the essential daily costs for a healthy diet are as follows:
- Adult male: 247.81 TL per day, 7,434.30 TL per month
- Adult female: 237.10 TL per day, 7,113 TL per month
- Teenager (ages 15–19): 261 TL per day, 7,830 TL per month
- Child (ages 4–6): 173 TL per day, 5,190 TL per month
The report was compiled by the Department of Inpatient Health Facilities at the TRNC Ministry of Health, based on the nutritional needs of a family of four and the cost of the necessary food. The price analysis was provided by the TRNC Statistics Institute.
It is also worth noting that the TRNC Statistics Institute previously reported the country’s inflation rate, which stood at 1.10% in December. Over the past year, prices have risen by 53.29%.
