September Inflation Rate Announced in Northern Cyprus
The Statistical Institute of the TRNC has announced the inflation rate for the country. In September, inflation stood at 2.53%. Since the start of the year, prices have risen by 45.7%, and compared to September of last year, they have increased by 63.57%.
According to the released data, the highest price increase in September was seen in the "Education" category, which rose by 31.59%. This was followed by "Alcoholic Beverages and Tobacco" at 7.43% and "Communication" at 4.82%. Health-related expenses also saw an increase of 4.07%.
Furniture, household appliances, and home maintenance services went up by 3.73%, while miscellaneous goods and services increased by 3.15%. Housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels saw a rise of 1.88%, transportation increased by 1.75%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a smaller increase of 0.95%.
Compared to the previous month, prices went up for 479 products, while the prices of 100 items saw a decrease.
The most significant price increases were in private university tuition fees for Turkish students, which jumped by 147.15%, followed by higher education tuition fees at 130.77%, and tuition fees for TRNC students at private universities, which rose by 128.95%.
On the other hand, the biggest price drops were in cocoa powder, which fell by 43.10%, national lottery tickets by 37.50%, and eggplants by 30.98%.
It is worth noting that in August, the inflation rate in the TRNC was 3.28%.
