Revenue and Tax Departments in Iskele and Famagusta in Northern Cyprus on Fifth Day of Strike
The revenue and tax departments in Iskele and Famagusta in Northern Cyprus are on strike for the fifth day. The strike began on Friday, January 23, 2026, according to union representatives.
The Turkish Cypriot Public Servants Union (KAMUSEN), the Public Servants Union (KTAMS), and the Public Workers Union (KAMU-İŞ) announced that they continue to participate in the action. The statement on behalf of the three unions was made by KAMUSEN chairman Metin Atan.
The unions claim that the Ministry of Finance and the government have not entered into dialogue regarding their demands and have taken no steps to resolve the issues. The reasons for the strike are cited as staff shortages, structural deficiencies, and inadequate infrastructure of the relevant institutions.
Metin Atan stated that employees will not remain silent about possible rights violations and are ready for "all forms of democratic action" to protect them. According to him, "as long as this indifference continues, our struggle will also continue."
For residents in Northern Cyprus, this means continued service limitations in the mentioned departments until the strike ends or agreements are reached between the unions and authorities.
