Pilgrims from TRNC to Visit Hala Sultan Tekke Complex in Larnaca Again
The Hala Sultan Tekke Complex in Larnaca will be closed to visitors on Wednesday. Pilgrims from the TRNC will arrive here to mark the fourth day of Kurban Bayram.
Hundreds of Turkish Cypriots are expected to undertake a pilgrimage to one of the holiest places for Muslims worldwide.
Earlier this year in April, around 450 people visited the complex in Larnaca to celebrate Eid al-Fitr. It was the first pilgrimage to this sanctuary located in the Republic of Cyprus since 2019, due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions.
Hala Sultan Tekke is one of the holiest places for Muslims globally, with some scholars considering it the fourth most important site in Islam after Mecca, Medina, and Jerusalem.
It is the burial place of Umm Haram, known in Turkish tradition as Hala Sultan, the wife of Ubada bin al-Samit, a companion of Prophet Muhammad.
