The Parliament of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) rejected amendments to the military service law

According to one of the authors of the initiative, Deputy Erkut Şahali of Famagusta from the CTP, the discussion of the bill began back in 2019 during the period of a four-party coalition. However, at that time, the adoption of the law could not be achieved.
The Turkish Republican Party reintroduced this initiative at the end of 2023.
According to the CTP proposal, those who are considered conscientious objectors to military service will be able to fulfill their duty to the homeland through "civil service."
The arguments of the parliamentarian turned out to be unconvincing.
After the presentations by the authors of the bill, the decree was rejected by a majority vote.
