The General Assembly of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) will not hold its next meeting as originally planned. The session, scheduled for next week, has been canceled to accommodate the expanded summit on the Cyprus issue that will take place in Geneva on March 17–18.

The next parliamentary session was initially set for those same dates, coinciding with the important 5+1 summit. As a result, lawmakers unanimously agreed to postpone the meeting during their most recent session.

The United Nations (UN) announced yesterday that the informal 5+1 Cyprus summit will take place next week in Geneva. Representatives from both Cypriot communities, as well as the three guarantor powersGreece, Turkey, and the United Kingdom—along with UN officials, have been invited to participate.

The upcoming Geneva meeting is seen as a pivotal moment in the Cyprus negotiations, as it will be the first high-level talks on the issue in 4.5 years.
