The National Unity Party (UBP) has officially announced its support for independent candidate Ersin Tatar in the upcoming presidential elections in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC).

The decision was made during a joint meeting of the party council and the Central Executive Committee. UBP leader Ünal Üstel praised the current president’s strong relationship with Turkey and expressed confidence in Tatar’s chances of re-election.

During the meeting, the party also reaffirmed its support for “government actions grounded in science, universal values, constitutional rights, and social responsibility.”

The session, which lasted about an hour, was held last night at the party headquarters in Sarayönü, chaired by the Prime Minister. President Ersin Tatar was also present.

Speaking at the meeting, Tatar thanked UBP for their support, emphasizing that over the past four and a half years, his team has introduced a new political vision based on equality and sovereignty.

He also underlined the importance of maintaining close ties with Turkey, noting that these strong relations have contributed to the country’s ongoing economic growth — even in the face of global challenges such as pandemics and conflicts.

“If we continue our journey with genuine unity and solidarity, I’m confident we will win. There’s no room for doubt,” Tatar said following the announcement.

As previously reported, Northern Cyprus is preparing for the 2025 presidential election, with voters set to elect the sixth president of the TRNC no later than October 12, 2025. Ersin Tatar has officially declared his candidacy.
