26.06.2024 / 21:26

The Pekingese named Wild Thing has been crowned the world's ugliest dog for 2024. The annual competition took place at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California.

Wild Thing is 8 years old and has frequently participated in similar contests. This was his fifth time competing in the California event.

According to his profile on the contest's website, Wild Thing contracted canine distemper as a puppy. The disease stunted the growth of his teeth, causing his tongue to always stick out. Additionally, his right leg is paralyzed and permanently bent.

The dog's profile states that "Wild Thing helps promote pet vaccinations."

The World's Ugliest Dog Contest has been held in Petaluma, California, since 1971. Traditionally, the winner is chosen by a panel of judges, but viewers can also vote online on the contest's website.

Wild Thing's owner will receive a $5,000 prize and will appear on NBC's Today Show.
