Seventeen Arrested in Connection with Apartment Thefts in Safaköy
In Northern Cyprus, seventeen individuals have been detained as part of a large-scale investigation into a series of apartment thefts in Safaköy. A substantial amount of undeclared electronics, Asian food products, and currency were seized from the suspects.
According to the police press office, searches were conducted in three apartments during the investigation into thefts that occurred in Safaköy in June 2024.
In total, 660 undeclared mobile phones, 30 laptops, numerous computer speakers, and various Chinese-origin beverages and food items were confiscated. Additionally, 15,845 Turkish lira, 3,985 US dollars, 5,615 Chinese yuan, as well as currencies from Myanmar and Malaysia, were found.
The police have identified seventeen individuals, aged 22 to 55, as suspects in these cases. All have been arrested.
Immigration checks revealed that two of the detainees were residing in the country without residence permits.
Earlier reports stated that the TRNC police had solved a series of apartment thefts in Safaköy. An illegal immigrant had stolen cash and six passports from two apartments. It is not specified whether these cases are related.
