The suspect in the murder of Mikhail Kamyshanov has been sent to prison
The suspect in the murder of Mikhail Kamyshanov has been sent to prison in Kyrenia. Sergey Mikhaylichenko, who admitted to committing the crime, was incarcerated.
During the court hearing, police representatives revealed that the suspect is in the country based on a residence permit. However, the murder he is accused of carries a life sentence. The police assumed that if the accused were released from custody, he might attempt to avoid trial and evade investigation. Therefore, the prosecution insisted on pretrial detention.
Evaluating the presented facts, the court decided to remand the suspect Sergey Mikhaylichenko in custody for a period not exceeding 73 days.
Recall that the shocking crime that shook the entire Russian-speaking community in Northern Cyprus occurred in the heart of Kyrenia on Monday, November 27. Russian citizen Mikhail Kamyshanov was strangled at his workplace in the İmaj Photo Studio on Ugur Mumcu Boulevard. A bag with a large sum of cash went missing from the crime scene.
During the investigation of the Russian's murder, surveillance camera footage was examined. Initially, three individuals—Sergey Mikhaylichenko, Katerina Kotenko, and Andrey Volkovskiy—were arrested as suspects.
All three were brought to court twice, and their detention was extended multiple times during the investigation.
Later, upon the expiration of their detention, the court released Katerina Kotenko and Andrey Volkovskiy because they were found not involved in the crime.
The third suspect was held in custody for 17 days. During this time, Sergey Mikhaylichenko admitted to committing the murder and revealed the location of the victim's mobile phones.
