Suspect in purchases with a stolen credit card in Güzelyurt caught after 1.5 years.

In Northern Cyprus, police arrested a 31-year-old woman who had made purchases worth over 400,000 lira using credit cards stolen in the Republic of Cyprus. The suspect was apprehended 1.5 years after entering the TRNC through the Lokmacı land checkpoint. Today, she appeared in court.

According to the investigation, in September 2023, a 77-year-old resident of the Republic of Cyprus reported the disappearance of his bank cards from his apartment. After some time, it was discovered that purchases had been made in Northern Cyprus using the stolen cards.

During the investigation, police identified three individuals who may have been involved in the crime. On November 1, 2023, an arrest warrant was issued for them. It was later established that between September 15 and 18, 2023, the 31-year-old woman made purchases amounting to 413,465 Turkish lira in Güzelyurt using one of the stolen cards.

The suspect was located and arrested while attempting to enter through the Lokmacı checkpoint on April 25, 2025. The detained woman confessed to the crime.

In court, the police requested that the defendant be held for an additional three days to continue the investigation, as two other suspects are still at large. The judge approved the police request.
