"Hunger Threshold" Calculated for Northern Cyprus in May
The Cyprus Turkish Public Servants Union (KTAMS) has announced that the hunger threshold for a family of four as of May 31 is 24,268 Turkish Lira.
According to the study conducted by the union, the mandatory expenses for a healthy diet are as follows:
- For an adult man — 217.62 TL per day, 6,528.60 TL per month
- For an adult woman — 208.13 TL per day, 6,243.90 TL per month
- For a child aged 15–19 — 229.51 TL per day, 6,885.30 TL per month
- For a child aged 4–6 — 153.68 TL per day, 4,610.40 TL per month
"Thus, the monthly expenses that a family of four must bear to have a healthy, balanced, and adequate diet amount to 24,268 Turkish Lira," the KTAMS statement reads.
The report was prepared by the Department of Inpatient Treatment Institutions of the TRNC Ministry of Health, considering the nutritional plan required for a family of four and the cost of the products in this plan. The price analysis was provided to the union by the TRNC Statistical Institute.
Previously, the TRNC Statistical Institute announced that inflation in April was 3.50%. Compared to December of last year, prices have increased by 27.98%, and the annual inflation rate is 95.37%.
