Authorities in North Cyprus have arrested four men in connection with the brutal killing of a herd of donkeys in the Karpas region. The investigation into the shocking incident is ongoing.

According to the police press office, the arrests were made as part of a comprehensive inquiry. Two of the suspects, aged 27 and 54, were found in possession of a shotgun cartridge with a sawed-off shell casing—the same type used in the killings. The other two suspects, aged 39 and 41, were also detained. One, who owns a registered rifle, was found with a missing barrel, while the other was unable to produce his registered firearm when questioned by police.

The horrific attack took place on Sunday, February 16, approximately 500 meters northwest of the Dipkarpaz landfill, where a group of assailants gunned down a herd of stray donkeys. The latest reports confirm that 16 animals were killed, an increase from the initial count of 14. Among the victims was a pregnant donkey that was shot in the middle of giving birth.

Following the discovery of the slaughtered animals, police launched a large-scale investigation, which is being closely monitored by the leadership of North Cyprus.
