TRNC Police Disperse Syrians Celebrating the Fall of Bashar al-Assad's Regime
Over the past weekend, a demonstration was held in Northern Cyprus in support of the opposition that seized power in Syria. Syrians residing in the TRNC celebrated the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.

Following the entry of opposition forces into Syria’s capital, Damascus, and the resignation of President Bashar al-Assad, pro-opposition supporters in Northern Cyprus took to the streets to mark the event.
Participants in the rally marched and drove in a long procession to Ortaköy in Nicosia. Police quickly arrived at the scene and dispersed the unauthorized demonstration.
It is important to note that similar protests also took place in Turkey and the Republic of Cyprus.
To recap, on December 8, Syrian armed groups opposed to President Bashar al-Assad announced the capture of Damascus, the collapse of the previous government, and the president’s flight from the country. Later that same day, the militants declared a curfew in Damascus, which was set to run from 4:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m.
After unsuccessful negotiations with the opposition, Bashar al-Assad resigned and fled the country. According to Russian media, on the evening of December 8, the former president and his family arrived in Moscow, where they were granted political asylum.
