Warning about dust in Northern Cyprus extended for the entire weekend
The TRNC Meteorology Department has extended the emergency dust warning for the entire weekend due to air pollution. Fine particles brought into the region from North Africa will only settle by Monday evening.
According to the director of the Meteorology Department, Sinan Güneş, strong air currents in the upper atmosphere will continue to transport dust over North Africa.
"The transport of dust will slightly weaken on Saturday, but it will increase again on Sunday. We expect the dust to remain in the air for another 4-5 days," said the chief meteorologist.
He also emphasized that the dust particles this time have spread over a vast area: the situation has affected many countries in the Middle East, as well as Greece and Turkey.
Recall that the dust warning in the atmosphere was announced in Northern Cyprus earlier in the week, and it has been extended several times. A similar situation with air pollution is observed in the southern part of the island. In Greece, the sky turned orange due to the dust. Meteorologists are confident that such a phenomenon will not occur in Cyprus.
