Police press office: 16 people detained in Northern Cyprus, live ammunition and drugs seized
The police press office reported that on February 7, 2026, during operational activities in various regions of Northern Cyprus, 16 people were detained on suspicion of illegal possession of ammunition and drugs, carrying bladed weapons, and public order violations.
According to the press office, at around 22:30 at Ercan Airport, during a baggage check of a person departing abroad, one live 9 mm round was found on E.A. (M-37). The round was seized as material evidence, the suspect was detained, and an investigation is underway.
The press office also reported that at around 18:00 on the highway between the Otyuken and Long Beach roundabouts in the Iskele area, police stopped a vehicle whose driver, A.G. (M-22), was displaying suspicious behavior. During a personal search, approximately 2 grams of a substance believed to be cannabis were found and seized. The suspect was detained, and an investigation is being conducted.
Earlier, at 14:15 in the Kumyalı area on Atatürk Street, F.S. (M-37) was detained for being intoxicated (recorded level of 185 milligrams), loudly disturbing public order, and illegally carrying a knife. He was detained for an administrative offense, and the materials were forwarded to the relevant authorities.
During general inspections across Northern Cyprus, 13 individuals without legal residency status were identified and detained; legal procedures have been initiated against them. The police press office noted that investigations into all cases are ongoing.
