The President of the TRNC briefed the US State Department on the Cyprus issue
The President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, met with officials from the US State Department. The leader of Northern Cyprus briefed American officials on the Cyprus issue.
During his contacts in Washington, the leader of the Turkish Cypriots met with the Deputy Secretary of State for International Organizations, Michelle Sisson, and the Deputy Secretary for Southern Europe and the Caucasus, Joshua Harris.
According to information provided by the press service of the President of the TRNC, during the meeting, Ersin Tatar shared his views on the situation on the island with US government officials. He evaluated the outcomes of the two visits of the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Maria Angela Holgun Cuellar.
It is worth noting that the Colombian diplomat has already visited Cyprus twice this year to meet with leaders of both communities and representatives of political parties and non-governmental organizations from both sides.
During the meeting with officials from the US State Department, Ersin Tatar was accompanied by his Special Representative, Güneş Onar, and the TRNC Ambassador to Washington, Damla Güçlü.
In addition to the meeting with representatives of the US State Department, the President of the TRNC also spoke at a meeting at the Hudson Institute. The Hudson Institute is one of the leading analytical centers in the field of foreign policy, operating in Washington.
Ersin Tatar informed the participants about the negotiation processes aimed at finding a compromise on the Cyprus issue. Tatar stated that a new official process in the context of the Cyprus issue can only begin after the confirmation of sovereign equality and equal international status.
After concluding his contacts in Washington, the leader of Northern Cyprus travelled to New York, where he will meet today at the UN headquarters with the Secretary-General of the organization, António Guterres.
