TRNC President Ersin Tatar has flown to Azerbaijan to participate in the Turkic Council Summit.

Accompanying the president is TRNC Foreign Minister Tahsin Ertuğruloğlu. Before departing, the leader of the Turkish Cypriots held a press conference at Ercan Airport.

Ersin Tatar stated that he will attend the summit at the invitation of Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev, emphasizing the event's significance. He also expressed gratitude to the Turkic Council for supporting the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus, noting that TRNC was formally admitted under its constitutional name for the first time.

“Our main goal is to seek further observer status within the Turkic Council,” said the President of Northern Cyprus.

The unofficial summit of Turkic Council heads of state will take place on July 5-6, 2024, in Shusha, Azerbaijan. The forum's theme will be “Building a Sustainable Future through Transport Connectivity and Climate Change Measures.”

Previously, TRNC President was invited to the summit by President of Azerbaijan, Ilham Aliyev.

During the summit, global leaders are expected to make important decisions, finalize documents related to various projects under the Turkic Council Strategic Agenda, and sign several agreements. It is anticipated that the leaders will sign the Karabakh Declaration and other significant documents at the summit.

TRNC was unanimously accepted as an observer member of the Turkic Council at the 9th session of the TDT held in Samarkand, Uzbekistan, on November 11, 2022.

TDT was established under the Nakhchivan Agreement in 2009. As of November 11, 2022, the organization includes Azerbaijan, Turkey, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, and Uzbekistan as member states, with Turkmenistan, Hungary, and TRNC as observer countries.
