The President of TRNC met with the representative of the UN Secretary-General over an iftar dinner
The President of TRNC, Ersin Tatar, and the Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, met for an iftar dinner. This is the second meeting of the Colombian diplomat with the leader of Northern Cyprus within the framework of the second round of negotiations on the island.
At the dinner, which began yesterday around 18:00, the UN envoy arrived alone. Before the meal, the diplomat was greeted by the Special Representative of the President of TRNC, Güneş Onar.
The dinner itself took place behind closed doors. It is known that the menu included traditional Turkish dishes - bulgur meatballs, katmer, walnut paste, and kadaif bread. The meal lasted for about an hour, after which Ersin Tatar escorted María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar from the Presidential Palace.
Iftar is the evening meal for Muslims during the Islamic month of Ramadan, which began for Muslims worldwide on Monday and is held after sunset.
Recall that the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, arrived on the island over the weekend. The Colombian diplomat is conducting the second stage of negotiations on the island with the leaders of the two communities, as well as representatives of political parties. The first meeting with the President of TRNC took place on the morning of Tuesday, March 12th.
