President Ersin Tatar met today with Maria Angela Holguin Cuéllar, the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General for the Cyprus issue.

The meeting, which commenced this morning at 10:25, was also attended by Colin Stewart, the head of the UN Peacekeeping Force mission (UNFICYP). The negotiations lasted for about two hours and concluded at 12:30.

It's noteworthy that Maria Angela Holguin Cuéllar, the Personal Representative of the UN Secretary-General in Cyprus, arrived on the island the day before. Today, the Colombian diplomat began the second stage of negotiations with the leaders of the two communities.

Additionally, it's expected that Maria Angela Holguin Cuéllar will meet with representatives of political parties early in the week. Her stay in Cyprus is planned for about a week or 10 days.

This marks the second visit of the UN envoy since her appointment. During her initial trip at the end of January, she met with the leaders of the two communities, as well as representatives of civil society. Subsequently, the Special Representative held consultations in the guarantor countries: Turkey, the United Kingdom, and Greece.

Last week, the Colombian diplomat conducted a series of high-level contacts on Cyprus in England, following which she returned to Cyprus.

UN Secretary-General António Guterres has tasked his representative with assessing over the course of six months whether there is any common ground between the parties for a new round of Cyprus negotiations.
