President of the TRNC Offers Condolences After Azerbaijan Airlines Plane Crash
The President of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), Ersin Tatar, has expressed his condolences following the crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines plane. He also wished a swift recovery to the survivors.
“I was deeply saddened to learn of the crash of the Azerbaijan Airlines passenger plane, which was en route from Baku to Grozny, near the city of Aktau in Kazakhstan. I pray for God's mercy on those who lost their lives in this tragedy, and I wish a speedy recovery to the injured,” said the TRNC leader.
Dursun Oğuz, the Minister of the Interior of the TRNC, also extended his condolences.
“My deepest sympathy goes out to the families of the victims of this tragic event, which has profoundly saddened all of us. I hope for the quick recovery of the injured. My heartfelt condolences to the people of Azerbaijan,” wrote the Interior Minister.
On the morning of December 25, an Embraer-190 passenger plane operated by Azerbaijan Airlines crashed at Aktau Airport in Kazakhstan while flying from Baku to Grozny.
Preliminary reports indicate that 69 people were aboard the plane—63 passengers and 6 crew members. Among the passengers were 16 Russians, 37 Azerbaijanis, 6 Kazakhstanis, and 3 Kyrgyz.
The crew sent out a distress signal at 8:35 AM, and by 8:49 AM, the plane began an emergency landing. At 9:28 AM, the plane crashed and disappeared from radar.
Recent reports indicate that 32 people survived the crash, most of whom were seated in the tail section of the plane. The exact number of fatalities is still being confirmed.
According to media sources, among the survivors are nine Russians, 13 Azerbaijanis, and three Kyrgyz citizens.
