President of the TRNC was awarded an honorary doctorate from Sutçu Imam University
President of the TRNC, Ersin Tatar, has been awarded an honorary doctorate at Kahramanmaras Sutçu Imam University. The day before, the leader of Northern Cyprus held a conference at the educational institution on the topic of "The Importance of the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus in the Context of Recent Events."
In his speech, the TRNC leader primarily addressed the earthquake on February 6th and the losses suffered in both countries, extending his condolences to all those who lost their lives in the tragedy.
Highlighting the geographical and historical proximity of Cyprus to the Turkish Republic, Ersin Tatar emphasized the importance of the island's security for Turkey, noting that the TRNC continues its development as a Turkish state in the Eastern Mediterranean.
The head of Northern Cyprus also emphasized that today the TRNC has a democratic order and a state structure with all its institutions and organizations. Ersin Tatar also reminded that Turkey has always supported the Turkish Cypriots.
The event was attended by the rector of Kahramanmaras Sutçu Imam University, Alptekin Yasim, academics, veterans, and students.
After Ersin Tatar's speech, a video reflecting the president's work was shown. Then the rector of Kahramanmaras University, Alptekin Yasim, read out the Senate resolution on awarding Ersin Tatar the title of doctor.
The rector noted that the relevant decision was made last year, and the award ceremony was planned to take place on February 10, 2023; however, due to the earthquake on February 6, it only took place today.
