Turkcell project about inspiring women named “Social Project of the Year”

Kuzey Kıbrıs Turkcell received the “Yılın Sosyal Sorumluluk Projesi” (“Social Project of the Year”) award at the first “Kuzey’in Kadın Yıldızları Ödülleri” ceremony, which aims to highlight women’s contributions to public life and support gender equality.
The ceremony took place at the Merit Park Hotel and was organized by Saygın Medya. The award was accepted on behalf of the company by Deputy General Manager Deniz Mungan Sonuç; Marketing Communications Manager Özlem Kavaz Soykan and Communications Specialists Cenen Özçaka and Öykü Müftügül also joined her on stage. In addition to the main award, Turkcell received a plaque of appreciation for supporting the event.
The jury-recognized project “İlham Veren Kadın Hikayeleri: 8 Kadın 8 Hikaye” (“Inspiring Women’s Stories: 8 Women – 8 Stories”) has been implemented by Turkcell since 2022. Each year for March 8, the company presents video stories of eight women who have achieved success and demonstrated courage and leadership in their fields. The videos showcase their journeys, challenges, and victories and are intended as examples and motivation for young people.
The jury specifically emphasized that the project increases the visibility of women in society, provides positive role models for youth, and supports a culture of equality and courage—therefore recognizing it as a strong corporate social responsibility initiative.
Speaking at the ceremony, Deniz Mungan Sonuç noted that Turkcell’s mission goes beyond developing technologies to amplifying women’s voices:
“As a technology and communications company, we see it as our mission to bring these inspiring, boundary-breaking stories to as many young people as possible. This award is a great honor for us, but in reality we are following in the footsteps of the strong women whose stories we strive to make heard—and we will continue to do so,” she said.
The gala evening attracted great public interest: the audience included well-known figures from Turkey and Northern Cyprus—Nil Burak, Aslıhan Koruyan Sabancı, Sibel Taşçıoğlu, Mihriban Er, Zuhal Gencer Erkaya—as well as representatives of business, arts, media, and politics. Throughout the evening, dozens of women received awards in various categories, and the leitmotif of the ceremony was the phrase “Kadın, toplumun aydınlık yüzüdür” — “Woman is the bright face of society.” The organizers repeatedly emphasized that strengthening women’s roles in social and economic life is a key condition for the country’s sustainable development.
