Teachers’ union of Northern Cyprus to hold protest over appointment of temporary teachers

The Turkish Cypriot teachers’ union KTOEÖS has announced a protest action to be held on August 19, 2025, at 12:00 in front of the Public Service Commission (KHK) building. The event aims to draw attention to problems in the education system related to teacher appointments during the pre-election period.
The union expressed concern that teacher appointments may be used for political purposes. Instead of carrying out lawful and transparent appointments, there is a risk of hiring temporary teachers, which could lead to favoritism and undermine the principle of equality.
“The use of temporary teachers as a tool of political pressure is unacceptable,” said KTOEÖS. The union demands an immediate resolution of the situation to ensure the smooth functioning of schools and the protection of teachers’ rights.
The protest is part of a broader movement for education system reform and transparency in teacher appointments. KTOEÖS representatives emphasize the importance of legality and ensuring quality education for all students.
For further information and participation in the action, organizers advise visiting the official KTOEÖS website.
