Work of the TRNC Parliament Suspended Again

The General Assembly of the TRNC Parliament has been suspended once again. All sessions have been postponed for a week due to ongoing conflicts between the ruling party and the opposition.

The conflict began after the Presidential Council elections of the Assembly of the Republic, which started on October 7 and lasted for 11 days, accompanied by numerous scandals. As a result of the elections, Ziya Öztürkler was elected Speaker of Parliament.

This decision sparked dissatisfaction among the opposition Republican Turkish Party (CTP), which claims that at least three votes were invalid. The opposition refused to attend the first session chaired by the newly elected Speaker, which led to another week-long suspension of Parliament’s work.

Despite these ongoing disagreements between the coalitions, today the relevant committee was scheduled to start working on the 2025 budget.
