A child fainted due to the heat during a ceremony for Children's Day in TRNC
In Northern Cyprus, during a ceremonial event in honor of National Sovereignty and Children's Day on April 23, a child fainted due to the heat. The events are taking place in temperatures exceeding 30 degrees Celsius.
The incident occurred during the celebration at a school in Nicosia. A video of the celebration was posted on social media by a local resident named Duygu Alan. According to the video's author, the child who fainted was carried off the field by his father, after which the ceremony continued. At the time of the event, the thermometer hovered at 33 degrees Celsius.
It is also noted that after the incident, the organizers did not take any additional precautions against the heat, such as providing water or head coverings.
It should be reminded that the national holiday of Sovereignty and Children's Protection (Ulusal Egemenlik ve Çocuk Bayramı) is celebrated in Turkey on April 23. This Turkish holiday is considered official, and in Northern Cyprus - not only widely celebrated but also a public holiday.
In honor of the holiday, solemn ceremonies and festive events are traditionally held in schools and districts in Northern Cyprus on this day. The holiday program in Northern Cyprus has been published earlier.
On the holiday, meteorologists predict partly cloudy weather with no precipitation. The air temperature is expected to be 7-9 degrees Celsius above seasonal climatic norms. In some areas, temperatures will rise to 34°C.
