On January 12, 2026, in Northern Cyprus, the leader of the Republican Turkish Party, Sıla Usar İncirli, stated that the party would not oppose the scheme proposed by the prime minister to modify cost-of-living compensation (COLA) payments.

İncirli commented on the prime minister’s idea of paying a higher amount of COLA to low-income workers and a lower amount to high-income workers. She noted that if this proposal were officially presented to the party, the Republican Turkish Party would support it.

The politician added that she does not recall a speech by the prime minister from the rostrum in which such a proposal was voiced. At the same time, İncirli emphasized readiness for discussion: “If you present a proposal to us, we will consider it. Bring it — and we will talk again; we are ready to meet.”

She also pointed out that it is impossible to establish full-fledged interaction based on recordings, and reiterated that the final decision would depend on an official proposal from the government.

For the population of Northern Cyprus, this means the possibility of changing the procedure for distributing COLA payments toward increasing support for low-paid workers, provided that the government introduces the relevant initiative.
