Russians have become the leaders in the number of crossings into the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC) in 2023
Since the beginning of 2023, the number of visitors arriving in Northern Cyprus through land border crossings and ports has increased by 33%. Among foreigners (excluding Turkish citizens), Russians are leading.
According to local media, 1,520,604 people have crossed the borders of the TRNC since the beginning of the year. During the same period last year, this figure was 1,141,237.
Out of 1.5 million visitors this year, 1,229,000 are Turkish citizens, and the rest are citizens of third countries.
Among foreigners, Russians are in the first place with 44,000 individuals, followed by visitors from Iran with 35,764, Germany with 25,683, the United Kingdom with 21,221, Kazakhstan with 14,416, Ukraine with 8,309, Pakistan with 7,768, Nigeria with 4,783, Kyrgyzstan with 2,952, and Israel with 1,438 people.
For comparison, last year during the same period, 26,000 Russians and 27,000 Iranians arrived in Northern Cyprus through sea and land borders.
The number of British and German tourists has slightly increased, while the quantity has significantly decreased. The number of Israeli citizens has increased from 1,151 to 1,438.
In addition, the publication "Dialogue" also published data on road traffic in Northern Cyprus, according to which 20,618 vehicles were added to the TRNC in the first 10 months of the year. The total number of cars in the country reached 385,000.
Experts link the increase in the number of vehicles to population growth.
