Four Workers Killed in Workplace Accidents in the TRNC Since the Start of the Year
Today, April 28, is recognized globally as World Day for Safety and Health at Work. In the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC), four people have lost their lives in workplace accidents so far this year, while six others have sustained injuries.
This day serves as a reminder worldwide of the importance of raising awareness to prevent workplace accidents, protect workers' rights, and promote safe working conditions. Occupational health and safety experts stress the urgent need to educate both employers and employees about safety practices.
Here’s a breakdown of the reported fatalities:

January 2 – Famagusta: 55-year-old Mustafa Kılınç was killed after being struck by falling iron profiles.

January 15 – Geçitköy: 42-year-old Halit Çeliksu died from electrocution.

January 16 – Mutluyaka: 62-year-old Tamer Zeden was fatally injured after being run over by his own tractor.

April 8 – Taşkent: 35-year-old Fatih Şafakoğlu died when a heavy object fell on him.
In addition to these tragic deaths, several workers have suffered serious injuries in workplace accidents — two incidents occurred in January, one in March, and three in April.
Speaking on the occasion of World Day for Safety and Health at Work, occupational health and safety expert Güvenç Yüksel highlighted that workplace accidents remain a widespread problem and emphasized that there is still much work to be done to ensure safer working environments.
