Two Turkish Cypriots arrested in Northern Cyprus for allegedly assisting Greek Cypriots who crossed the border

Two citizens of Northern Cyprus were arrested on suspicion of aiding a group of Greek Cypriots who had illegally crossed the border from the southern part of the island. A court in Lefkoşa ordered the suspects to be held in custody for three days as the investigation continues.
The incident occurred on July 19, when five citizens of the Republic of Cyprus entered Northern Cyprus through the closed military checkpoint at Akyar. During their detention, maps, property documents, and other materials related to real estate in the north of the island were found in their possession.
According to police, one of the detained individuals is a civil servant, while the other works in the real estate sector. They are suspected of passing on confidential information about properties in the occupied areas, which investigators believe may have been used to support legal or other claims by Greek Cypriots.
Police stated that both suspects remain under investigation, and further charges or additional suspects may emerge in the coming days.
The case has sparked public outcry and once again highlighted the sensitive issue of property ownership on the divided island.
