Northern Cyprus: 69 traffic accidents in a week, 30 people injured
The Northern Cyprus police published a weekly road safety report showing that between October 14 and 20, a total of 69 traffic accidents were recorded across the country. Thirty people sustained injuries of varying severity.
Of all the accidents, 19 were caused by speeding, 14 by careless driving, 13 by insufficient distance, 11 by improper maneuvering, and 12 by failure to give way at intersections. The total material damage from the incidents is estimated at 2,765,000 Turkish liras.
The highest number of accidents occurred in the Lefkoşa district (25 cases), followed by Girne (20), Gazimağusa (12), Güzelyurt (7), and İskele (5).
During the same period, traffic police conducted large-scale inspections: 11,782 vehicles were stopped, and 1,209 drivers were fined for various offenses ranging from speeding to using mobile phones while driving.
The authorities of Northern Cyprus once again reminded drivers to strictly follow traffic rules and exercise caution, especially during evening and night hours. The police emphasized that intensified road inspections will continue in the coming weeks, particularly in high-risk areas.
