2024 Temperature Records Set in the TRNC
Northern Cyprus witnessed a historic temperature record in 2024, the highest in nearly 50 years since 1975.
The Meteorological Department released a summary of last year’s most extreme weather events, highlighting the hottest and coldest days, as well as other notable climatic data.
The hottest day of the year was recorded in Türkmenköy on June 16, with a scorching temperature of 46.8°C. In contrast, the coldest day was February 29 in Nicosia, when temperatures dropped to an unprecedented -0.2°C.
Sea temperatures also saw significant variation. The warmest sea temperature was 31.5°C, recorded on July 20-21 in Gemikonagı. On the other end of the spectrum, the coldest sea temperature of 15.8°C was noted on April 2 in Kyrenia.
Rainfall peaked on January 30, with Geçitkale receiving 179.4 mm of rain per square meter in a single day. The year’s strongest winds were recorded in Serdarlı on November 24, with gusts reaching an impressive 171 km/h.
