President's Salary Revealed: Minimum Salaries in the Public Sector of TRNC
The lowest salary in the public sector in Northern Cyprus is 34,430 Turkish lira. Changes in income tax and basic categories, following the agreement between trade unions and the Ministry of Finance, have affected the salaries of government employees.
According to a net salary study conducted by Kıbrıs Postası, the lowest-paid government employee, who has completed high school, is married, and has two children, will receive a salary of 34,430 Turkish lira at the end of January. Government employees with higher education will receive 39,975 Turkish lira.
The salary of a teacher who recently graduated from Atatürk Pedagogical Academy (AÖA) has increased to 42,170 Turkish lira. A general practitioner earns 65,959 Turkish lira, while a specialist doctor earns 76,450 Turkish lira.
The starting salary for department heads in government institutions is 57,360 Turkish lira, and politicians receive an average of 77,600 Turkish lira. The highest salaries are for deputy ministers, starting from 92,760 Turkish lira, as well as ministers and deputies, starting from 129,920 Turkish lira.
The highest salary in Northern Cyprus goes to the President of the country, Ersin Tatar, whose salary is 149,315 TL.
Recall that a new minimum wage was recently approved in Northern Cyprus. As of January 2024, it is 24,000 Turkish lira net and 27,587 Turkish lira gross (before tax deductions). Thus, the difference between the country's minimum wage and the lowest salary for government employees has increased to 8,430 TL.
