TRNC Livestock Farmers Receive Compensation for Bluetongue Outbreak
Livestock farmers in Northern Cyprus have received financial compensation following an outbreak of bluetongue disease, also known as catarrhal fever or “blue tongue”, which affected small ruminants. More than 13.5 million Turkish lira has been distributed to those impacted.
Under the "Mandatory Livestock Insurance Regulation" of the General Agricultural Insurance Fund, compensation payments for November 2024 have been made to farmers whose livestock suffered losses due to the outbreak.
A total of 13,530,792 Turkish lira was paid out to 371 affected farmers, with the funds transferred to the Cooperative Central Bank.
The bluetongue outbreak in Northern Cyprus was recorded in November last year, with 1,255 cases reported among small ruminants.
