Milk Producers’ Union: Minister prepares unprecedented increase in milk prices
The chairman of the Milk Producers’ Union, Mahmut Erden, stated on social media on December 30 that the Ministry of Agriculture of the TRNC is preparing an unprecedented increase in the prices of dairy products in Northern Cyprus.
Erden reported that previously the union kept dairy product prices below the inflation rate. According to him, this was done to preserve the purchasing power of the population and to prevent the market from shifting to the southern part of the island. Erden called this step a mistake and expressed regret.
The chairman also emphasized that the TRNC Ministry of Agriculture is preparing a price increase unprecedented in TRNC history and placed responsibility for the upcoming changes on the Minister of Agriculture. Erden warned that dairy products “will now also be very expensive.”
Erden’s statement has again brought the issue of rising milk prices and the planned Ministry of Agriculture increase into the center of discussion. For residents, this means a possible rise in the cost of dairy products in the near future.
