The Union of Insurance Companies stated that the recent floods following heavy rainfall once again demonstrated how much the country needs a more reliable and resilient system of protection against natural disasters. The organization called for the swift introduction of Mandatory Natural Disaster Insurance.

The union emphasized that the insurance sector is ready to provide all necessary technical expertise and institutional support to launch the system. According to the organization, such insurance could become one of the key tools for protecting citizens, allowing homes and property to be secured in advance so that people do not face the situation of “having needed insurance” only after a disaster has occurred.

It is also noted that, based on examples from other countries, including Turkey, a mandatory insurance model can be implemented at affordable rates and will not place a significant burden on family budgets. At the same time, the union believes that launching the system primarily requires a political decision.

According to the organization’s assessment, the introduction of mandatory insurance will allow compensation to be paid more quickly and fairly after natural disasters, reduce financial pressure on the state, and become a long-term “protective mechanism” for the economy.
