The election for the Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, held yesterday in the Assembly of the Republic, ended without a result. Voting will continue today.

During yesterday’s session, a vote within the National Unity Party (UBP) saw the current Speaker, Zorlu Töre, nominated once again with 13 votes, outpacing his main rival, Faiz Sucuoğlu.

However, in the fourth round, Zorlu Töre failed to secure the required majority, leading to the nomination of MP Kutlu Evren.

In the first vote for the new candidate, he faced 26 votes against, resulting in the session being adjourned once more.

Ultimately, no conclusion was reached in yesterday's vote in the General Assembly of the Republic. The election has been postponed to 10:00 AM today.

It’s important to note that the fourth legislative year of the Assembly of the Republic began on October 1 in Northern Cyprus. Parliament’s last session before the summer break was held on Tuesday, June 25. During the recess, the General Assembly held two extraordinary meetings.

Earlier reports indicated that Zorlu Töre, the current Speaker of the TRNC Parliament, would once again put forward his candidacy for the Speaker of the Assembly in the new legislative year. His term in the Parliamentary Council has expired.
