It became known when the UN Secretary-General's envoy on the Cyprus issue will return to the island
The President of the Republic of Cyprus, Nikos Christodoulides, revealed when the personal envoy of the UN Secretary-General, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar, will return to the island. The leader of the Greek Cypriots stated that the appointment of the Colombian diplomat "opens a window of opportunities, creating conditions for the resumption of negotiations."
According to the head of the Republic of Cyprus, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar will return to the island in mid-March. The President emphasized that it will be a substantive meeting, not "just negotiations for the sake of negotiations."
The President of the Republic of Cyprus also added that the meeting will discuss the creation of a bizonal, bicommunal federation.
"This is not subject to discussion, and this is a message, both ours and from the international community, to Turkey and the Turkish Cypriot community," said Nikos Christodoulides.
Recall that earlier in late January, María Ángela Holguín Cuéllar arrived in Cyprus for the first time. During her time on the island, the Colombian diplomat spent about a week: during this time, she held several meetings with leaders of both communities - Turkish Cypriots and Greek Cypriots, negotiators from both sides, visited the UNFICYP headquarters in the buffer zone, and met with representatives of non-governmental organizations.
After completing her work contacts on the island, the diplomat held a series of meetings in Ankara. It is expected that today she will visit London, where she will hold talks with the British government.
