Court Postpones Hearing in Case of German Woman Selling Greek Property in TRNC
In the Republic of Cyprus, the court has postponed the hearing for Eva Kunzel, a 49-year-old German national accused of selling Greek property in the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus (TRNC). The next hearing is scheduled for October 2, and until then, Kunzel will remain in custody.
On the previous day, Kunzel appeared before the Nicosia Criminal Court for the first time. Her lawyer requested a delay to review witness statements and evidence provided by the prosecution.
The defense plans to challenge the court's jurisdiction and impartiality. Reports also indicate that Kunzel does not intend to plead guilty to the charges.
Kunzel was arrested on July 7 at Larnaca Airport as part of an investigation into the sale of Greek property in the TRNC. She is suspected of advertising and facilitating the sale of property in the northern part of the island on land owned by Greek Cypriots.
The investigation suggests that Kunzel is the founder and director of a German company promoting and selling homes in the Olive Trees Village and Aelita Garden Resort complexes in Esentepe. These complexes are reportedly being built by Kayim Group on land owned by Greek Cypriots.
Local media report that Kunzel faces 56 charges and is alleged to have earned nearly 170,000 euros from five transactions.
